Dining Out

Filet MignonAs a self-catering cottage, Fox Cottage is fully equipped with an electric oven, hob and microwave, as well as a barbecue for those balmy summer evenings. However, should you wish to dine out, there are plenty of options in the local area including the following:

The Fox Inn, Broadwell
This is the nearest pub from the cottage and is ideal for a good traditional English pub lunch or dinner. Ample portions, good atmosphere, award-winning local ale and friendly staff make this an ideal local dining option.

The Fox Inn, Lower Oddington
Built in the 16th Century, the Fox Inn is a quintessential English pub, with its flagstone floors, beams, open fireplaces and antiques. It is located 3 miles east of Stow-on-the-Wold so does require a short drive from the cottage. Food is prepared from fresh and local ingredients and a wide range of fine wines and real ales is available. Booking is advisable.

The Old Butcher’s, Stow-on-the-Wold
The Old Butcher’s is situated on Park Street, Stow-on-the-Wold, so again, this would require a short drive from the cottage. It has a bistro atmosphere and serves excellent food and reasonably-priced wine. It is advisable to book as it gets very busy particularly at weekends.

The Tollgate Inn, Kingham
Formerly a Georgian farmhouse dating back to 1720, The Tollgate Inn is situated in the idyllic village of Kingham, another short drive from the cottage. Excellent food, wine and beers are served in a relaxed, informal atmosphere and the hosts, Anne and Paul, extend a wonderfully warm welcome to their guests. Again, booking is advisable for evening meals.

Poached Sole Fillet and ChanterellesThe Plough, Ford
A popular choice amongst locals, and voted UK Racing Pub of the Year in 2008, this 16th Century Inn is located in the hamlet of Ford, a short drive from Stow-on-the-Wold. Renowned for its excellent menu and local ales, the Inn overlooks the beautiful gallops of Jonjo O’Neill`s training yard and the surrounding countryside. Booking is advisable at this popular venue.

The Horse and Groom, Bourton-on-the-Hill
The Horse and Groom was named Good Pub Guide Gloucestershire Dining Pub of the Year 2009 and is well worth a visit for its good homemade food and its wide selection of beers and wines. The bar area is light and airy and the dining room is cosy and welcoming. Again, a short drive is required from the cottage.

Alternatively, if you would like to use the services of a local caterer who can supply food ready-prepared for you to reheat and serve or indeed can come to the cottage and cook a meal for you, this can be arranged.

Details on local taxi companies are available at the cottage, should you not wish to drive.
